On 05 June 2025, hon L Maxegwana of the MKP moved as follows:
This House notes:
The Auditor-General's Report revealed that 92% of KwaZulu-Natal Municipal budgets are being spent in a manner inconsistent with the law.
Alarming statistic indicates severe lack of fiscal accountability and compliance within municipal governance.
Misuse of public funds undermine service delivery, erode public trust, and hinder the development of our communities.
This House therefore resolves to:
1. Immediately conduct a comprehensive investigation of non-compliance to identifying the root causes and holding responsible parties accountable.
2. Strengthening internal controls, enhancing oversight, and targeted training for officials.
3. Enforce financial discipline and ensure municipalities adhere to financial regulations.
4. Ensure transparency and accountability to the citizens of KwaZulu-Natal.
9.2 Debate on the following 1st IFP Party Motion:
On 05 June, 2025, hon PN Msimango of the IFP moved as follows:
This House Notes:
That shoddy work by incompetent contractors who are awarded government tenders is prevalent in KwaZulu-Natal.
This House Resolves:
1. To welcome the announcement by KZN MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Honourable Martin Meyer, that the provincial government will begin blacklisting contractors who abandon projects or deliver substandard work.
2. To call for rigorous vetting processes to eliminate corruption in the awarding of tenders.
3. To urge the government to recover public funds lost to corruption through incompetent contractors.
4. To call on the government to name, shame, and prosecute corrupt officials colluding with service providers in state contracts.
9.3 Debate on the Report by the Premier on communities in distress due to KZN Province being engulfed by floods; and
9.4 Debate on the Report by the Premier on issues surrounding the Human Rights Month.
