KZN LEGISLATURE TO HOLD A TWO DAY SITTING IN UGU DISTRICT AS PART OF ITS PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROGRAMME OF TAKING LEGISLATURE TO THE PEOPLE
KwaZulu-Natal Legislature will, on the 2nd and 3rd November 2023, hold a two-day sitting at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre near Gamalakhe in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality under Ugu District, as part of its annual public participation programme of Taking Legislature to the People.
In the year 2023, Ugu District was identified as the recipient district for the Multiparty Oversight Visits and the Taking Legislature to the People programme. In June, multiparty delegations of Members of the Legislature, held community engagement meetings in all local municipalities under Ugu District Municipality, focusing on the levels and state of service delivery and related issues, and conducted oversight visits to identified projects and fact-finding mission to service delivery institutions that were identified for verifications in all 4 local municipalities.
During the community meetings, community members were provided with an opportunity to raise various issues of service delivery affecting their communities which needed urgent government intervention. The programme aims to resolve issues raised by communities by referring them to the provincial government for immediate response and action. In this respect, a comprehensive report on the Multiparty Oversight Visits in Ugu District has been compiled and will be presented to communities on the first day of the Taking Legislature to the People Programme at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on 02 November 2023. The Legislature will debate the report in its sitting on the following day.
The 2023 Multiparty and Taking Legislature to the People (TLTP) in Ugu District, focuses primarily on “tracking the progress on the implementation of the National Development Plan (NDP) and KZN development strategy known as the Provincial Growth and Development Plan (PGDP) in Ugu District.
The programme will also provide the Legislature will an opportunity to give feedback on the state of service delivery projects previously visited in 2019 and issues raised by communities when the Legislature conducted the same programme in the district.
