Social Development Portfolio Committee holds Stakeholder Engagement Meeting at Bergville Multipurpose Community Centre in Uthukela District
Today, the Social Development Portfolio Committee led by its chairperson Honourable Noluthando Dlamini, is holding a stakeholder engagement meeting attended by members of the public, NGOs, NPOs, Municipal Speakers, Mayors, councillors, and community leadership to receive presentations from the Social Development Department on the draft 2026/2027 departmental Budget and the Annual Performance Plan.
The session is being held to give various stakeholders an opportunity to make inputs on the departmental budget and APP to ensure that these critical documents address issues of concern to the stakeholders and community within Uthukela District.
The committee is also facilitating these sessions as part of the Legislature’s mandate to involve members of the public in the oversight processes of the Legislature.
Members of the public and stakeholders have raised various concerns to the department including delays in responding to complaints about service delivery of social services in communities, delays in completing capital projects such as social service centres, inadequate funding of NPOs, and the need to capacitate community based organisations who support the work of the department.
