SUBJECT: ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND TOURISM AFFAIRS PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE ASSESSES INCUBATOR PROGRAMME.
Tomorrow, 22 November 2024, in Section 6 Madadeni, Newcastle, the Committee will conduct its oversight on Textile and Clothing, Operation Vula’s Chemical and Detergents Incubator Programmes. “This will be one of the Portfolio Committee’s oversight activities to ensure that the beneficiaries of this programme of the department of Economic Development, indeed reap the benefits as was envisaged when this programme was introduced”, Hon Mafika Mndebele, the Chairperson of the Committee said.
This programme was initiated by Department of Economic Development, Tourism, and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) through Ithala Development Finance Corporation (IDFC) to establish a Clothing and Textile Industrial Hub within the Madadeni Industrial Estate. This facility will be an incubation center to provide Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and Cooperatives with the requisite skills and access to the clothing and textile industry market.
According to the Portfolio Committee’s report the total tender value amounts to R62m to kickstart this project. “As agents of taxpayers we are mandated by the constitution to follow up and oversee service delivery to communities, so that the promise of a better life for all can be realized”, Hon Mndebele concluded.
Media is invited to cover this oversight work of the Portfolio Committee, and Hon Mndebele will be available to take telephone interviews.
