The Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, Hon. Nontembeko Boyce, paid a heartfelt courtesy visit to Mam’ Thoko Shabalala, the wife of the late Dr. Joseph Shabalala, the esteemed founder and leader of the internationally renowned isicathamiya group, Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
The visit took place at the Shabalala family home in Ladysmith, where Speaker Boyce conveyed her deepest respect and appreciation for the profound legacy Dr. Shabalala left behind. His lifelong contribution to South African music and cultural diplomacy continues to inspire audiences both locally and globally.
Mam’ Thoko Shabalala warmly received the Speaker and her delegation, expressing sincere gratitude for the ongoing recognition and support shown to her family and her late husband’s work.
As a gesture of appreciation and respect, Hon. Boyce also presented Mam Shabalala with a small gift, symbolising the Legislature’s recognition of her role in supporting Dr. Shabalala’s musical journey and preserving his legacy.
