2026 International Women's Day Programme for Women and Girls, 27 March 2026
LIVE-NOW!
KZN Legislature and Democracy Development Program to Host 2026 International Womenâs Day Celebration Under the Theme: Rights. Justice. Action â For All Women and Girls, Durban, South Africa - Friday, 27 March 2026:
The KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, in partnership with the Ddp Durban Npc, will host a celebration of International Womenâs Day (IWD) under the theme: Rights. Justice. Action - For All Women and Girls.
The event will take place on Friday, 27 March 2026 in Durban, bringing together women leaders, councillors, civil society stakeholders, and gender justice advocates committed to advancing womenâs rights and inclusion across the province.
International Womenâs Day is a worldwide moment to honour womenâs contributions, reflect on progress toward gender equality, and accelerate efforts to dismantle systemic barriers. The 2026 theme calls for tangible, actionable commitments to ensuring that women and girls enjoy equal protection under the law, full access to justice, and the ability to thrive in every sector of society.
âGoals and aspirations of womenâs March of 1955 led by Bertha Mashaba Lilian Ngoyi and others, are still yet to be realised till today, so this celebration is to honour their contribution in the struggle we face today as womenâ, said Hon Celiwe Madlopha, the Chairperson of the Multiparty Womenâs Caucus in the KZN Legislature.
This yearâs programme, convened by the Womenâs Multiparty Caucus of the KZN Legislature together with DDP, responds directly to pressing challenges facing women, especially at local government level. Research from Afrobarometer indicates that gender-based violence, unequal access to justice, and discrimination remain among the most urgent issues confronting women in South Africa. The event therefore aims to translate national and global commitments into practical, local interventions.
Media is invited to attend the event, and media interviews will be facilitated.
