DATE:     Tuesday, 03 March 2026,

The debate on the State of the Province Address (SOPA) is a critical, legally mandated legislative function where opposition and governing parties analyse, critique, and challenge the Premier’s policy priorities fostering accountability, ensuring oversight of government performance, and shapes the province’s political and economic direction for the upcoming year.

All political parties represented in the House will participate in the debate and make inputs on the Premier’s agenda for this year’s KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government programme of action regarding its plan for service delivery.

The 120 minute time allocation for the debate is split proportionally based on the number of seats each political party holds in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature in line with the standing rules and the Whips decide how to split the time among individual speakers (MPLs) from their caucus. The debate concludes with the Response by the Premier to the issues raised in the debate, for 30 Minutes.
