KZN LEGISLATURE INSTRUCTS HEALTH PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE TO MINITOR COVID-19

In the wake of the first confirmed case of the Covid-19 in the province, the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature has instructed members of KwaZulu-Natal’s Portfolio Committee on Health to keep a beady eye on efforts to contain the spread of the virus.

The Speaker, Ms Nontembeko Boyce said the Legislature expected up to the minute briefings from the Health Portfolio and the MEC for Health in the province on any developments around Covid-19.

Echoing the words of KwaZulu-Natal Premier Mr Sihle Zikalala wherein he called for calm and reassured the nation of its safety, the Speaker said KwaZulu-Natal had full confidence in its health system.

“We plead with our society to take all the necessary precautions and seek immediate medical help in the event of symptoms that match those of the Covid-19,” Ms Boyce said.

THE SPEAKER WELCOMES THE ADDRESS BY HIS MAJESTY KING GOODWILL ZWELITHINI KABHEKUZULU

The Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Ms Nontembeko Boyce welcomes His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini KaBhekuzulu’s addres at the opening of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature.

Boyce thanked His Majesty for his support and notes the concerns raised in his address. She further expressed appreciation of the relationship the Legislature enjoys with the royal family and the traditional leaders at large saying she wishes for it to grow.

The opening of the KZN Legislature by his majesty has been a tradition for the KZN legislature for years; to demonstrate respect for the institution of traditional leadership in the province.

“His majesty’s address is always motivating, encouraging and inspiring as we always get good advices from the King” said Boyce.

The house will reconvene on the 4th of March 2020 where the premier of KwaZulu-Natal is expected to address the citizens of the province on the state of the province.

KWAZULU-NATAL LEGISLATURE SPEAKER TO MAKE MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE LEGISLATURE

Ms Nontembeko Boyce, the Speaker of KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, will (on Monday, 23 February 2020, at 9am, at the Oceanic Hemisphere, Lavita in North Beach, Durban) address the media on preparations for the official opening of the Legislature.

“It is all systems go for the opening of the Legislature. We have done all the necessary consultations with all relevant partners, and we are ready to announce how this event will unfold,” said Boyce ahead of the briefing.

The media briefing will be addressed by Ms Boyce, her Deputy Mr Mluleki Ndobe, and the Secretary of the Legislature, Ms Nerusha Naidoo.

Media representatives are requested to RSVP before end of business on the 21 February 2020. Transport will be arranged for media from the neighboring areas of the CBD.
